In light of the current environmental urgency, as well as the importance of promoting the intangible heritage represented by the Catalan language, the “Petit Taller de Cançons” (https://petaca.cat/) has moved forward with the recording of THE VOICE OF THE EARTH, a popular cantata composed of nine songs and eight internal clans. The aim is to denounce the attacks it has been receiving for too long and to bring us closer to the countless positive feelings its landscapes evoke.
The cantata, created by the Petit Taller de Cançons, is accompanied by a set of educational materials developed at the Pau Casals Learning Camp (CdA) for learning the songs and carrying out various educational activities. From its website, you can find video clips, tutorials, sheet music, instrumental tracks, and curriculum programs to complement and facilitate the work of music teachers and teaching staff who wish to participate in the project.
Through various training programs promoted by the Pau Casals Association, teachers involved in the project learn through rehearsals and activities that will allow them to later implement the project in their classrooms, where students can work on it from different areas (language, music, science, etc.). Teachers, schools, and families from all over the country are collaborating: La Seu d’Urgell, Flix, Llívia, Lleida, Girona, Reus, El Vendrell, Esparreguera, Terres de l’Ebre, and more.
The fact that this project is being promoted throughout the country, with a systemic vision (as it considers the entire educational community) and focusing on the natural and intangible heritage that surrounds us, makes it a significant safeguarding action that many schools and teachers value highly. Furthermore, it allows students to work across various subjects and skill areas such as self-management, collaboration, social involvement, and academic rigor.
Furthermore, the pandemic was a severe blow to the project, as it prevented rehearsals, training sessions, in-person sessions, and so on, which are so necessary in cooperative and manipulative projects.
