The tangible and intangible heritage surrounding the Alt Urgell region is very diverse and must be highlighted through initiatives that promote it and also focus on inclusive education for new generations.
For these reasons, in 2011, the Seu d’Urgell City Council made a firm commitment to preserving and promoting its heritage as a basic element of promoting and enhancing the municipality’s heritage and tourism. The “Espai Ermengol” houses the city museum and the tourist office. This eclectic-style building, with classicist-inspired elements and sgraffito, dating from the late 19th century, is located in the heart of the historic centre, specifically in the Álvarez house. It is an interpretive centre that aims to preserve and appreciate the municipal collection, disseminate heritage and historical legacy, and promote the culture and tourism of Alt Urgell.
The “Espai Ermengol“, the City Museum, offers tours and workshops related to the natural heritage of the Alt Urgell region, based on the narrative thread of the exhibition: “Nature in Alt Urgell: Heritage and Resource.”
The guided tour and workshop on the natural heritage of the Alt Urgell region, offered through the exhibition, aims to discover the richness of our natural environment: species, habitats, and phenomena, in order to understand the great biological diversity of the territory. In addition, we will learn about the protected natural areas of Alt Urgell.
The guided tour and workshop are conducted in Catalan and Spanish and cost €2 per student. The price includes museum admission, and teachers or accompanying persons can enter free of charge.
This initiative is aimed at students in Early Childhood and Primary Education, as well as in Compulsory Secondary Education.

One of the greatest achievements of this initiative is that the guided tour is complemented by an outdoor excursion showing various points of interest in the surrounding environment through the “La Seu Naturalment” project. This allows students of different ages and with very diverse interests to explore natural heritage from the outdoors and with other resources closer to their context.
