The Alt Pirineu is a geographically difficult region, with serious problems of depopulation, with constant population mobility to access any service, where the primary sector—the traditional one—needs restructuring, and a large part of the population works in one way or another in services. In response to this situation, a unitary school was created, the Folk School of the Pyrenees, which connects Pyrenean residents both personally and collectively. It also fosters relationships between students so that, regardless of where they live, they feel part of the same project, making it possible to learn music and our traditional instruments in places far from the regional capitals.
The Folk School of the Pyrenees · Talleres de Arsèguel structures a training program based on three pedagogical branches:
- Folk in School.
- Camps for Young Folk Performers.
- Specialized weekend workshops.
Classes are held Monday through Saturday at the Folk School of the Pyrenees · Arsèguel Workshops. Folk at School reaches around twenty villages in the regions of Alt Urgell, Berguedà, Cerdanya, Pallars Jussà, and Pallars Sobirà. Instruction is provided in both group workshops and individual classes and is aimed at children, young people, and adults. The Folk at School program makes learning traditional music, instruments, and dances available to everyone in the towns and villages of the Pyrenees. A permanent team of teachers travels to the various schools in the region to teach the various subjects offered in group workshops and individual classes.
This year, the decision was made to focus on the Pyrenees Solstice Fire Festival. For information on the various activities promoted, you can consult the resources on this platform or visit the project website: Escola Folk del Pirineu
The Pyrenees are vast, and it is often difficult to expand participation in specific activities or dynamics. However, the Pyrenees Folk School develops a common repertoire that makes it easy for all students, regardless of their location in the Pyrenees, to share it on any occasion.
